BIG U-TURN: Andrew Mwenda Exposed As Tooro Chief Prince Denies Selecting New King

Rumors started swirling yesterday evening especially on social media indicating that the Tooro succession committee had reportedly selected a new king who would succeed the fallen King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV who succumbed to cancer from the United States.

The news about the new King was first shared by veteran Journalist Andrew Mwenda who in a long post on his social media pages revealed that 18 out of the 21 members of the Succession committee had selected 36-year-old UK-based Prince George Desmond Kamurasi as new Tooro King.

According to Andrew Mwenda, the committee sat at the Fort Motel chaired by Chief Prince [Omusuuga] Charles Akiiki Kamurasi and selected Prince George Kamurasi to take over the reigns of the throne left vacant by his fallen nephew.

The Veteran Journalist further revealed that he had shared the same information with the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Muhoozi Keienrugaba who endorsed the decision and also told him that even the president endorses the same position of the new King selected.

“The CDF has said that President Yoweri Museveni supports the decision of the Royal Committee on Succession. He sent a team led by a senior cabinet minister to Fort Portal. After extensive consultations with all the key stakeholders, the committee was convinced that there is a wide consensus around the succession of Kamurasi”-Mwenda’s tweet reads in part.

Such developments contradicted the official position announced by the Tooro Prime Minister [Omuhikirwa] Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki and President Museveni who both acknowledged that the late King had left behind a heir who would succeed his father according to the norms and traditions of the Tooro Kingdom.

Speaking in a tiktok video currently making rounds on social media, Omusuuga Charles Akiiki Kamurasi denied knowledge of the reports shared by Andrew Mwenda and said he’s not aware of such developments even when it’s reported he’s the one who chaired the meeting that selected the new King.

Omusuuga was also further pressed by the journalist to say something about reports that King Oyo left a heir, he blatantly denied knowledge of this too further raising speculations on what is happening in Tooro as the nation mourns the fallen King.

Tooro Kingdom just like some other Kingdoms hasn’t been immune to power struggles, in 2015 Prince David Kijanangoma announced that he had overthrown King Oyo accusing the fallen King and his mother Best Kemigisha of absentee leadership, Palace Interference and mismanagement of Kingdom Property.

Two Journalists Andrew Irumba who first announced the death of King Oyo even before the Kingdom officials did and Journalist Andrew Mwenda who announced the selection of the new King even before the responsible people did eliciting have been greatly slammed for the way they’ve shared news about the Kingdom which they belong to.
