Breaking News: Museveni Postpones This Year’s Martyrs Day Celebrations

President has this evening announced that he has postponed this year’s martyrs day celebrations which happen at Namugongo Martyrs shrines every year on 3rd June.

In a brief statement posted on his social media pages, the president has attributed the cancellation of the big event to the outbreak of the Ebola disease [Bundibugyo strain] in Eastern Congo few days ago.

According to president Museveni, the country receives a big number of pilgrims from Eastern Congo and had already started making entry into Uganda via the Mpondwe boarder in Kasese and when such numbers make it to Namugongo, it poses a huge health threat.

“This decision was made because Uganda receives thousand of pilgrims annually from Eastern Congo, which is currently experiencing an Ebola outbreak. to safeguard everyone’s lives, it is essential that this important event be postponed.”-Museveni posted.

Museveni also urged those who had started trekking this long journey to Namugongo to return back home and wait for a latter date which will be communicated.
