Police in Busia district has launched an investigation into circumstances under which a man reportedly attacked the Central Police Station in the area.
It’s reported that a 40-year old idientified as Were Godfrey aka Nasaye, a resident of Hadadira village in Sikuda subcounty, on Thursday morning (around 5:30am) was armed with a panga and a stick, attacked Busia Central Police Station.
Upon his arrival, he entered the counter room and started cutting the counter table in an attempt to kill the police officer who was at the reception. The police officer started shooting and the bullets hit and injured the attacker in the leg.
SSP Peter Mugabi the Busia District Police Commander- DPC confirmed the incident and said that they have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the suspect made an attack.
Preliminary observations attribute the act to drug addiction because the suspect was arrested with some fetishes and marijuana in his pockets.
Moses Namangese, a boda-boda rider who witnessed the attack told this publication that the man came with a panga in the gum boots and upon reaching at the station he pulled it out and started cutting the counter table.
In interview with the suspect at the health facility where he was taken by police, Were Godfrey insisted that he is God and wants people to understand.
By the time of filling this story, the suspect was still admitted at Busia health center IV getting treatment of gun shots wounds sustained in the leg.
