A police constable attached to the Counter-Terrorism (CT) unit has died in a suspected suicide by shooting at Afford Agencies Limited in Namanve Industrial Park, Wakiso District.
The deceased has been identified as Police Constable (PC) Allan Akandinda, 25, who was reportedly deployed to guard the company.
According to a police incident report, Akandinda was found dead in a room at the premises on Sunday, October 11, after colleagues heard a gunshot and went to investigate.
The report indicates that the incident was reported to police at around 1pm by ASP Steven Komakech, the CT commander in charge of Namanve Industrial Park.
Akandinda’s colleague, PC Ajuna Onan Kabura, reportedly told investigators that the deceased had arrived at work at about 10:15am on Sunday, later than expected.
The report further indicates that Akandinda had allegedly been involved in a confrontation at a bar in Mbuya-Kinawataka the previous day, although details of the incident and the reported police detention remain unclear.
According to the account given by his colleague, Akandinda had gone to Gayitano Bar, where he allegedly had a dispute with a woman over payment following a sexual encounter. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a fight, prompting the bar manager to intervene.
The colleague further alleged that Akandinda was subsequently arrested and detained at a police station whose identity was not disclosed in the report.
When Akandinda reported for duty on Sunday, he was reportedly questioned by his commander about his conduct and arrival time but responded rudely.
The report states that at about 1:15pm, Akandinda entered a room at the company premises and locked himself inside. His colleagues reportedly heard a gunshot shortly afterwards.
When they looked through a window, they found him lying on a mattress in a pool of blood.
Police officers, including Kampala Metropolitan Police East Regional Police Commander SSP Justus Tashobya, CT personnel, officers from Kirinya Police Station, and scene-of-crime officers, visited the scene.
Investigators reported that the door was locked from inside, with the key still in the room. A deep gunshot wound was observed on the front of the deceased’s neck.
A police rifle was reportedly found between his legs, while investigators recovered one spent cartridge inside the room. The report also indicated that one round of ammunition remained in the rifle’s chamber.
Police further observed a hole in the ceiling suspected to have been caused by a bullet. The rifle was reportedly loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, while two magazines containing a total of 60 rounds were found on the porch.
The case was registered at Kirinya Police Station as a suspected suicide by shooting, pending further investigations.
Police had not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting by the time of filing this report.
