He was first endorsed by the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Muhoozi Keinerugaba, his Patriotic League of Uganda and later by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the 12th NRM Parliamentary Caucus, West Budama Central MP Jacob Oboth-Oboth Markson is the new speaker of parliament.
His ascension to the top seat follows state sanctioned operations against former speaker of the 11th parliament Anita Among who amidst the storm of a corruption probe formally withdrew from the Speakership race which she dearly wanted and would do anything at her disposal to get a second term.
The new Speaker hosted fellow MPs, friends and family at his home in Mukono for a thanksgiving after swearing in as Member of parliament. The event was greatly attended by many NRM and NRM leaning Independents who had initially endorsed Anita Among just immediately after the January 2026 elections.
Ahead of him is a troubling image of the 11th parliament which despite passing several legislations, it was overshadowed by a smoke of corruption which was largely orchestrated by it’s leaders reportedly at the supervision of former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among
During the voting which took place at Kololo Independence grounds, Oboth- Oboth polled 441 votes above Norbert Mao who got 15 votes and NUP’s Mwiru Paul who polled 60 votes.
