Despite the bill being rejected entirely by all stake holders who faced the committee which was processing it, legislators especially from the NRM were directed to support it’s passing and sent to the president who has assented to it today.

The signing of the Protection of Sovereignty Bill into law comes at the heels of troubling times for former Speaker of Parliament of Annette Anita Among who is facing accusations of illicit wealth, money laundering and corruption.

Two out of her many houses have since been surrounded off by security and undergone serious searches with report suggesting that money stuck in boxes and vaults was found.

Joint security teams from police and UPDF mounted a 16-hours house search inside Anita Among’s Nakasero residence and are currently doing the same at her other residence in Kigo along Entebbe road and all her other homes in Kololo, Kyanja and Bukedea are set to undergo the same.

If the charges leveled against her especially Money laundering are connected to the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026, she might be the first Ugandan to be charged under such new law she seriously fought to pass before the 11th parliament concluded it’s business.
