The leadership of Kasese Municipality has made a significant contribution of Shs 8 million to Kasese Catholic Diocese to support preparations for the 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations.
The announcement was made during a special mass held at the Municipal Council Headquarters, led by Bishop Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira.
Kasese Diocese is taking the lead in organizing this year’s Martyrs Day celebration, which is traditionally observed on June 3rd.
However, the total cost of the event is estimated at around 4.5 billion shillings, prompting the diocese to launch vigorous fund mobilization to meet this target.
During the Mass, Bishop Kibira called on the municipality to serve humanity with love, saying that acts of kindness and transparency will be rewarded in heaven. He urged local leaders to support the church’s activities, highlighting the church’s vital role as a key development partner both locally and globally.
The Bishop commended the district and municipal workers for mobilizing funds for the celebration, stating that the opportunity for the diocese to lead this year’s event is a shared responsibility that reflects the region’s commitment to spreading the gospel of Christ and showcasing the region’s richness.
Kasese Town Clerk Geoffrey Bamanyisa pledged the municipality’s collaboration with the church to ensure that the area remains clean, safe, and welcoming to all.
Meanwhile, Kasese Central Division Chairperson Martin Safari praised the diocese for its mobilization efforts and encouraged other leaders to support the initiative.
He noted that the joint efforts of the church and local government underscore a strong partnership aimed at celebrating Uganda Martyrs Day while promoting community development and unity in the Rwenzori region.
