A tragic road accident turned fatal on Tuesday night when a loaded Fuso Fighter truck lost control due to brake failure, killing one person and injuring several others in Ubbi Village, Laropi Sub-County, Moyo District.
According to North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea, the incident occurred on May 12, 2026, at around 8:30 PM at Ubbi Hill adding that the vehicle registration UBN 756P (also referenced as UBH 756P), a white Fuso Fighter driven by Okello was transporting coffee seedlings from Anaka Town Council towards Yumbe District.
Asea said the driver and passengers had crossed the ferry and stopped to rest in Moyo Town, planning to continue the journey the following morning.
While navigating the hill, the brakes failed on the loaded vehicle, causing it to roll backwards uncontrollably before falling onto one side, resulting in serious injuries to the occupants.
According to Police, tragically, victim Andrew died en route to Moyo Hospital.
The injured victims, including driver Okello Bernard and passengers Onen Innocent, Nyeko Grivin, Rubangakene Patrick, Ceaser, Omona Patrick, Oloya Denish, and others, were admitted to Moyo Hospital for treatment.
Police traffic officers visited the scene, drew a rough sketch plan, and recorded statements from the driver and witnesses.
The vehicle remains at the scene pending removal, while the body was taken to Moyo Hospital for a postmortem. An inquiry into the incident is ongoing.
According to 2025 Uganda Police Annual crime report, the country recorded 26,044 road crashes, a 3.7% increase from 2024. Of these: 4,602 were fatal crashes (up 3.8% from 4,434)
13,563 were serious crashes (up 3.3%)
7,879 were minor crashes.
