It all started from Muhoozi’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) withdrawing it’s endorsement of Anita Among and Thomas Tayebwa as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively for the 12th parliament and instead opted for former Defense Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth.

Anita Among was free on 12th May, on the third Day she was placed under house arrest, all her residences searched with army and police confiscating several of her stuff including luxury cars and hard cash in different currencies parked in boxes but 100 days later, she’s freed from her house prison with no charge.

The once flamboyant and powerful politician fell from the pinnacle of authority with cars seized, humiliated and placed on the parliamentary committee for presidential assurances headed by NUP’s Francis Zaake her sworn enemy.

After being painfully booted out of the speakership race which she dearly wanted with all her energy, Museveni never considered Anita Among for a ministerial position despite appointing three of her opponents Persis Namuganza, Lydia Wanyoto and Alioni Yorke Odria as ministers.

The Bukedea Women MP was hunted to the extent that the IGG was furnished with enough evidence to charge the former Speaker but seems political dynamics have overshadowed the context of fighting corruption in Uganda after it came clear that she won’t face prison or any court.

Instead her blue-eyed boys at parliament including Chris Obore the former Director of Communications at parliament and six other people were charged and currently on remand facing corruption, embezzlement and money laundering cases.

The Chief of Defense Forces also the first Son Muhoozi Keinerugaba has taken to his social media and revealed that his father directed him to release Anita Among from her house arrest.

Muhoozi further revealed that the former speaker won’t be charged after his father decided to forgive her all the sins she committed during her tenure as Speaker of parliament. The sins are related to corruption, money laundering, illicit enrichment and running cartels with in parliament.

All the evidence collected during the weeks of search operations by police and army at different Anita Among residences in Kampala and Bukedea will be swept under the carpet and close that chapter.

Cops combed Anita Among’s homes in Nakasero, Kololo, Kigo, Bukedea, her mother’s house and her Personal Assistant’s house all in Bukedea and harvested huge volumes of devices like computers, hard cash, documents, cameras and luxury cars among others linking her to crimes but that awaits to be seen if they will be returned to her despite implicating evidence of corruption.

She’s not the first person to be forgiven after being engaged in corruption, she joins a list of other politicians who have been forgiven by the president whose stance on high profile corruption has always ended in forced resignations or courts acquitting those already being charged.
